Marco Rubio has been a fixture in Florida politics for over a decade, holding his position as the state’s senior U.S. senator since 2011. A dedicated Republican, Rubio previously led the Florida House of Representatives as Speaker from 2006 to 2008. His ambitions took a national turn in 2015 when he launched a presidential bid instead of pursuing Senate reelection.
By November 2020, Rubio confirmed he would seek a third term in the 2022 elections. Off the political stage, Rubio shares his life with his wife Jeanette Dousdebes, a former Miami Dolphins cheerleader and bank teller. The couple, who wed in 1998 at the Church of the Little Flower, are raising their four children in West Miami, Florida.
