Her breakthrough in the industry came when she portrayed Florence Johnston on The Jeffersons. Checking In is the spinoff series she headlined after The Jeffersons, and she also left a lasting impression on 227.

For 227, Gibbs co-produced the show and also worked on the theme song. Long before shifting her focus to Hollywood, she worked as a reservations agent with United Airlines. She moved to Los Angeles from Detroit, and the rest is history.
